Fair Trade Baby Slings for Sale
Casa Materna sells baby slings made in Nicaragua of fine Guatemalan
fabric for $40, plus $7 shipping and handling. These slings are made by
women staying at the Casa Materna in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, and all the money
from sales goes back to them. Merilynne Rush, formerly a New Moon midwife,
has done volunteer work at Casa Materna, which provides housing, support, and medical
care for low-income women from the countryside who have come into the city for a
hospital birth due to high-risk circumstances.
At Casa Materna, the women receive medical
attention, education, breastfeeding support, and childcare and nutritional
information. The nursing staff there also helps to educate the indigenous
midwives. These well-made, cotton, adjustable slings come in a variety of
colors. If you would like to purchase one for yourself or a friend, please
contact Merilynne Rush at 734-424-0197. You can visit Casa Materna's web site at
